The Noticing Hub™ is now live
A Carevia practice and culture model

The Noticing Model™

People cannot respond to what they do not notice. The Noticing Model™ helps adult social care teams develop the habit of noticing what matters, recognising significance, responding appropriately, reporting what others need to know and reflecting so future practice improves.

The Noticing Model™ is a habit, not a tool.

The goal is not simply to remember five stages. It is for the model to become part of everyday thinking and, ultimately, part of the culture of the service.

The Noticing Hub™ Membership by Carevia includes the full Noticing programme and Carevia Pro+ for £99.99 per month, per registered location.

Why noticing matters

Some of the most important moments in care are easy to miss.

A person seems quieter than usual. Someone communicates discomfort differently. A familiar routine changes. Or perhaps someone shows new confidence, an ability that has been overlooked or an opportunity for greater independence.

Notice what could cause harm

High-quality care depends on people recognising change, emerging risk, discomfort or deterioration early enough for something useful to happen.

Notice what matters to the person

Care becomes more person-centred when teams pay attention to communication, preference, identity, emotion, relationships and what gives someone comfort or meaning.

Notice what might become possible

Noticing is also about strength, confidence, aspiration and opportunity. Good care protects people. Great care also helps people flourish.

A Noticing Culture™

Culture is shaped by the questions a service asks every day.

Task-focused question
“Have you done Joan?”
A noticing question
“What did you notice about Joan this morning?”

The first question checks whether something was completed. The second invites observation, curiosity and professional judgement.

Different questions create different conversations. Different conversations influence what people pay attention to. Repeated often enough, those habits shape decisions, behaviours and culture.

The aim is for teams to reach the point where noticing what matters becomes simply “how we do things here.”
The five-stage loop

Simple language. Deeper practice.

The public model is deliberately simple. The Noticing Hub™ develops the judgement, coaching, reflection and implementation that sit behind these five stages.

1

Notice

Pay attention to what is standing out.

2

Recognise

Consider what has been noticed and what it might mean.

3

Respond

Take proportionate and person-centred action.

4

Report

Make sure the right information reaches the right people.

5

Reflect

Learn what should be noticed sooner next time.

The Noticing Model™ is designed to be practised, coached and embedded. It is not intended to become another document that is read once and forgotten.
Inside The Noticing Hub™

Built to make noticing part of everyday practice.

The live Hub brings the model into everyday practice, workforce development, governance and implementation. These are the resources members can use now, with further updates added as the programme develops.

Everyday practice and learning

Help teams notice what routine can hide

Use realistic situations, reflective prompts and practice reviews to strengthen attention before “normal” becomes reassuring.

  • The Noticing Scenarios™ for realistic practice-based learning
  • The Noticing Cards™ for incidents, near misses and wider learning moments
  • The Noticing Handover™ for stronger shift communication
  • The Noticing Care Plan™ for comparing written guidance with staff understanding and practice
  • The Noticing Walkaround™ for structured observation of people’s lived experience
Workforce and culture

Build curiosity into how people are led

Bring the model into supervision, recruitment and culture so professional curiosity becomes a shared expectation rather than one manager’s instinct.

  • The Noticing Supervision™ with individual and service-level follow-through
  • The Noticing Interview™ for values-led recruitment and evidence-based judgement
  • The Noticing Culture™ for exploring patterns, behaviours and closed-culture risk
  • Role-specific job descriptions and implementation resources
  • Private individual records kept separate from the shared service action plan
Governance and follow-through

Turn learning into accountable improvement

Connect what has been noticed with policy review, service action and assurance so learning does not disappear when the conversation ends.

  • The Noticing Policy Review™ for testing whether policies are understood and usable
  • An editable Policy and Procedure Library
  • The editable Noticing Model™ Policy and Procedure
  • SMART-TE™ Service Action Plan for actions generated across the tools
  • Portable records and service-level action transfer into Carevia assurance tools
Learning and implementation

Support managers to introduce it properly

A model only changes practice when people understand how to use it. The Academy and implementation resources help services move beyond a launch email.

  • The Noticing Model™ Foundation
  • Training for Handover, Supervision and Cards
  • Expanded Quick Start Guides for available tools
  • A practical implementation guide and Start Here pathway
  • New and revised resources added as the programme develops
The tools make the model practical while protecting the deeper methodology. Members access the exercises, coaching structure and implementation support inside The Noticing Hub™.
Two Carevia models. One connected approach.

From noticing what matters to knowing what is really happening.

The Noticing Model™ and RAOF™ serve different purposes, but together create a stronger route from everyday practice to assurance and verified improvement.

Practice and culture

The Noticing Model™

Helps people detect what matters in everyday care and build habits of attention, judgement, communication and learning.

Notice → Recognise → Respond → Report → Reflect

Assurance and oversight

RAOF™

Helps managers and leaders test what is really happening by triangulating records, conversations and observed practice.

Read → Ask → Observe → Feedforward

The Noticing Model™ helps people detect what matters.
RAOF™ tests what is really happening.
Carevia turns that understanding into evidence, action and verified improvement.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is The Noticing Model™ a training course?

Not simply. Training may form part of implementation, but The Noticing Model™ is intended to become an everyday habit that influences conversations, judgement, reflection and service culture.

Is The Noticing Model™ only about identifying risk?

No. It can support earlier recognition of risk and deterioration, but it also encourages people to notice what matters to the individual and opportunities that may support confidence, independence, purpose and a fuller life.

How does The Noticing Model™ differ from RAOF™?

The Noticing Model™ develops everyday attention, recognition and learning. RAOF™ is an assurance methodology that helps leaders test whether expected practice and actual practice align. They are designed to complement one another.

Will all of the methodology be available publicly?

No. This page introduces the philosophy and five-stage model. The deeper implementation approach, interactive learning, coaching resources and premium practice tools are available to members inside The Noticing Hub™.

Will The Noticing Model™ replace specialist training or professional judgement?

No. It is designed to support professional curiosity, attention, decision-making and learning. It does not replace safeguarding procedures, clinical tools, legal requirements, specialist guidance or professional advice.

Is The Noticing Hub™ Membership now available?

Yes. The Noticing Hub™ Membership by Carevia is live at £99.99 per month, per registered location, and includes Carevia Pro+. You can read the full membership details or join directly through the secure checkout page.
